Summary:

 

Provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient, and accurate service.  Assist in the delivery of primary and urgent health care.  Perform a variety of other duties related to patients’ assessment, treatment, reevaluation, and discharge.    Interact with contact persons from clients as well as staff from other clinical departments.

 

Job Duties:

 

  1. Patient Care

  1. Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments

  2. Take patient histories and vital signs

  3. Prepare patient for examination and treatment

  4. Apply splints and dressings, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization

  5. Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals

  6. Perform phlebotomy and distributive laboratory paperwork

  7. Dispense medication as directed

  8. Instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable

  9. Perform selected nursing and administrative duties as directed

  10. Handle telephone calls from clients, patients, prospective patients, physicians, pharmacies, as well as other staff

  11. Provide solutions to patient concerns within the scope of position

 

  1. Clerical

  1. Provide accurate and timely documentation to provider staff, insurance carriers and companies

  2. Correspondence by phone, in person, or in writing with regard to patient care, i.e. insurance carriers, physicians, non-clinic physicians

  3. Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians’ review, etc.

  4. Log and mark charges on superbills per billing office protocols

  5. Document patient files, records, forms, and other information

  6. Assist with scheduling of test and treatments

  7. Screen phone calls for referral to physician

  8. Maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment

  9. Complete opening and closing procedures

  10. Be sure work area appears neat, well stocked, and organized

 

  1. Other Duties

  1. Maintain disposable and non-disposable supplies, i.e. wound care supplies, laundry, etc.

  2. Provide general information of department policies and procedures

  3. Attend required meetings, re-certifications, and participate in committees as requested

  4. Help produce and maintain patient education instruction hand-outs

  5. Maintain clean, professional working/treatment area

 

  1. Accept and assume responsibility for special projects as they arise

 

  1. All other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

  2. Graduate from accredited Medical Assistant Program

  3. Successful completion of clinical affiliations

  4. Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  5. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care

  6. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment

  7. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with telephone calls, patients and families, clients, co-workers, clinical staff and physicians

  8. Knowledge of computer function and basic office equipment

  9. Organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow

  10. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care

  11. Ability to pay close attention to detail in all facets of the position

  12. Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions

  13. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  14. Responsible for personal actions, positive action upon feedback from others

  15. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
